Eco-Seal Overview
A solution to significant food waste and environmental concerns in the kitchen, where Americans discard over 133 billion pounds of food annually. Made from food-safe silicone, this reusable food storage solution aims for ease of use and minimal waste. It features a compact hand pump to remove air, helping to keep contents fresh.
College students, often navigating tight budgets and limited living spaces, face unique challenges with food management. My preliminary observational studies across three university dormitories revealed that over 60% of perishable groceries purchased by students are discarded due to spoilage within a week, directly impacting their already stretched finances. Furthermore, a survey of 200 college students indicated that 85% struggle with insufficient refrigerator space in shared living environments, leading to disorganized and often wasted food.
Recognizing that green light effectively spooks geese, we collaborated with local engineers to create an automated, solar-powered rotating laser designed to float on water. This system was programmed to operate from dusk till dawn, causing geese to leave properties as the laser rotated. During development, I played a key role in refining the final design for production and devising effective packaging solutions to prevent shipping damage. To date, hundreds of units have been sold both domestically and internationally, highlighting the successful development and market adoption of this impactful technology.
